Utilities Crash Diet
For one-month make it your goal to use as little electricity as you can and still live a relatively normal life. For example, see how little hot water you can use when doing laundry and dishes, or when you shower. Then compare your bill with the same month in the previous year and see how much you save. You might just decide that a utilities crash diet can help you shed some financial fat.

Car Buying Season
Well, it is officially the beginning of car buying season. That's right, December is the time when dealers are really cutting prices on this year's models to move them off the lot in advance of next year's arrivals.
The car-buying experience; however, can be so aggravating that when it comes time to finance the purchase, you may be tempted to go with the dealer’s loan just to get it over with. Did you know that nearly 80% of all car buyers arrange financing through the dealer? Jumping at the dealer’s financing isn’t wise, though.
You may be able to borrow elsewhere at far better terms. Dealers often stack two percentage points on top of the APR (annual percentage rate) that a bank would charge. So before you walk into the showroom, check with at least three local lenders, including the institution where you have a checking or savings account, to see what kind of deal you can swing. Then you’ll know whether the car dealer’s loan is best for you.

A Home's Value
Do you know what your home or the one you are planning to purchase is truly worth? A Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) is a beneficial resource that can help you find out. By comparing the residence to others in the area, while taking into account current purchasing trends, the analysis will provide a calculated estimation of the amount a buyer in today’s market would be willing to pay.
When selling, this report will help you decide on a competitive sales price. If you are buying, it will provide guidance for determining the amount to offer, selecting the ideal homeowner’s insurance policy and identifying how solid your investment will be. In addition, a realistic estimate of your property’s value will contribute to the accuracy of your estate plan.
This Item of Value provides more information about the benefits of a market analysis, as well as additional characteristics that can influence a home’s appeal. Keeping up with industry trends can be complicated; but any good Realtor is there to help.

Take a “Productive Day Off”
This idea comes from New York Times columnist Ron Lieber. He took a day off and spent it online and on the phone working to lower interest rates, find better CD rates and get better deals on rewards cards. He also checked on his current major insurance policies to make sure hey were up-to-date and still made sense for his current situation.
A few hours of concentrated financial housekeeping can net a big return over the course of a year. For people really seeking to put their money matter in order, it can be a great way to get a good handle on where you stand now, and help you plan for 6-, 12-, and 24-month financial goals.

Automatic Bill Pay
Consider your checkbook obsolete. Most online banking services offer automatic bill pay; meaning all of your monthly bills can be automatically withdrawn from the bank account of your choice. Pay your cable, electric, mortgage, car, and other bills without ever picking up a pen or licking a stamp. For a nominal fee, your bank will either electronically pay all of your bills, or send out a check to the companies you owe. It's by far one of the greatest advantages of online banking.
If you are looking for a good online bank that has a variety of future options, then ING DIRECT is definitely a top choice.
